Welcome to a town so exotic, you think you were in Spain, not Israel! Join Yoni for a special walking tour of one of the original settlements of the First Aliya, founded in 1882. ***CHOOSE A DATE AND BOOK IT!***
This is a must tour for anyone making Aliya and looking for the ideal place to live!
We meet at the main bus stop in town by the park, Gan Hatiol.
We walk through the town centre, down hill, past a breadthtaking view of the Carmel mountains; we can see the southern extremities of Haifa here and we talk a little about the geography and features of what we see. Next, we walk to the Carmel Winery, hear the story of how Zichron was founded and how Baron Rothschild started the wine industry here. We visit the Carmel wine tasting visitor centre if within opening hours.
We pass the Bet El factory and hear the story of the German community in Zichron Yaakov, how and why they came to Israel and what they do here.
Next, we walk uphill through delightful gardens, then, past one of the Orthodox Jewish neighbourhoods in town.
We walk past the town cemetary through to the Midrachov, the main street of this delightful town. At the entrance to the main street we stop outside the Aaronsohn House, we hear the heroic and tragic story of Sarah Aaronsohn and the NILI spy ring who assisted the British in overthrowing the 400 year rule of the Ottomans.
We spend time in the Midrochov, checking out the quaint alleyways, boutique shops, resturants, finally finishing the tour outside the Ohel Yaakov synagogue, built by the Baron in 1886, and one of the most beautiful shuls in the whole of Israel. At this point we are across the road to the bus stop where the tour began.
Wear closed walking shoes and a hat. Sun screen and a water bottle are highly recommended. There is considerable walking, some of it uphill, and there are many steps. A special tour can be arranged for people with walking difficulties. Please contact us for details.
